Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking

Day 1 (Pokhara – Ghandruk)

Ever since I started to love trekking and travelling, Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking was one of my dream trek destinations (there are a lot in the bucket list). No wonder, the jubilation was on the peak when I finally accomplished it; that too with my best buddies. We were in quite rush when we decided to hit the road for it all of a sudden, while we were enjoying the beautiful environment at Lake side, Pokhara.

Thursday, 5th October it was; we headed for ‘Nayapul’ from where the trek starts. Most of the trekkers travel up to ‘Birethati’ or ‘Hille’ or ‘Tikhedhunga’ via Jeep and start trekking uphill via ‘Ulleri’ (Ulleri ko ukalo is very famous in this trekking, which I will be telling you in coming blogs) to reach ‘Ghorepani’. They take the route of ‘Ghandruk’ village while returning. But, we wanted to do just the opposite of that; we thought of spending our first night at ‘Ghandruk’ as per one of our friend’s suggestion.

Nayapul – Ghandruk

As we started to walk from ‘Nayapul’ at around 10 AM, the scorching sun started to poke us already. Moreover, we have always hated to walk on the roadways along with the vehicles. The combination of the sun and the dust is just perfect to annoy trekkers. So, we had to take a vehicle up to ‘Kilu’ from where the uphill trek towards ‘Ghandruk’ starts. There, we had something to eat to energise and prepare ourselves. We were quite shocked with the menu of that hotel where the actual trek doesn’t even start (maybe I’ll write about it in some other post).

We actually started to get that “Ghandruk – Ghorepani – Poon Hill” trekking vibes when we started walking up from there. The stone paved stairs, the green fields, the landscaped view of the next hills and mountains; everything were backing us to walk. Walking uphill through ‘Kimche’, we came across a waterfall. It was like a blessing on the way for our burning and sweating bodies. We had quite a good time there. Continuing the walk for around an hour from there, the ‘Ghandruk’ village gate welcomed us saying “Welcome to our beautiful village; TMC-Ghandruk”. That moment was so pleasing for us.

Our tired feet were somehow relieved reaching ‘Ghandruk’ village. It was 4PM when we reached there. We were quite lucky that we got a hotel to accommodate ourselves for that night. We freshened up ourselves, enjoyed watching and capturing the beautiful evening looks of mount ‘Machhapuchchhre’ and ‘Dhaulagiri’ from there. Our taste buds were happy to have the tasty dinner there. Thinking about the next day’s long trek to ‘Ghorepani’, we got ourselves off to bed quite early in that beautiful full moon night.
