Constitution Day – September 20
I sit calmly in my balcony as I read the news all over regarding the country celebrating the very first constitution anniversary. A complete one-year has passed since the long awaited Constitution was promulgated in our country.
On this day last year, MOST OF THE Nepalese were celebrating deepawali with blossoming enchantment while FEW OF THE Nepalese were being outraged against the same. I had published an article when the promulgation happened last year > Constitution Promulgation.
So, was celebrating deepawali really worthy on this day? What difference we have found between last year’s Ashoj 3rd and this year’s? If yes, what good has it brought to all of the Nepalese? What robust developmental steps has it brought to Nepal? And what kind of hopes and beliefs has it created in Nepalese hearts?
Nothing but disputes, controversies, crisis, gimmicks and delusion. Yes! The Constitution of Nepal 2072 brought nothing but the Madhesh issue on fire and border blockade by India.
During the promulgation itself, the Madhesh based parties were against it. They were dissatisfied with the state division, they were intimidating with the possible happening of ‘the long awaited battle’ but still the promulgation of the constitution happened. We all know what’s going on with this internal dispute since then.
Then, what we faced as the most horrible thing ever was ‘border blockade by India’. This also was the outcome of the same constitution. It was revealed that Indian government was against the new constitution of Nepal because of which border blockade happened.
The constitution henceforth gave birth to an ephemeral government under the leadership of Mr. KP Oli, which specifically mentioned about the implementation and necessary amendments of the new constitution. But, what it did was nothing. The constitution implementation process is nowhere and the amendment regarding the Madhesh demands is just an illusion. On the contrary, what he did was just talking about the huge dreams and aspirations which were quite impossible for us to achieve and also wasn’t the priority thing we needed at the moment.
And now another government has been formed with same promises of implementation and amendments to establish cordial internal plus external relationships but we have to wait and watch what it actually will do and how much will it last.
So much of things happened since this day last year but nothing made us realize that this constitution was the thing we had been waiting for. What actually does it worth if it’s not implemented the way it’s supposed to be? What actually does it mean if it doesn’t include all the voices and demands from every corner? It only has created chaos and mayhem.
What we ‘mango people’ were expecting was the political stability that would lead to the economic growth and development but what in reality we got?
We faced months long border blockade which created crisis in petroleum products and black marketing, that was what constitution brought.
Thousands of earthquake victims are still without necessary funds for reconstruction, this is what constitution has brought.
Hundreds of people die and others become homeless in every year’s mansoon season, still no any precaution or safety measures implemented for them, this is what constitution brought.
Madesh based parties are still howling for their demands to be addressed creating issues in internal relationships, this is what constitution has brought.
People are suffering so hard and dying because of lack of hospitals and proper treatment in rural areas and no proper step has been taken, this is what constitution has brought.
A man has been doing ‘fast-unto-death’ for 8 times already against the corruption and making the medical sector better but the government doesn’t care, this is what constitution has brought.
All those huge projects that are meant to lead the country towards betterment are stuck in nowhere, this is what……
Last but not the least,
One more day has been added to the list of public holidays, this is what constitution has brought. Nothing more so far.
