Lex Limbu; On life, Family and Identity
Lex Limbu, the UK-based Nepali blogger revealed the truth behind his identity with a documentary; a film by Kailash Gurung as it has been said. In the video, Lex opens himself as being a gay (transgender). Yes! You read it right ‘Lex Limbu is a gay’, but, does it really matter? No.
Watching this video, I was dumbstruck to know the truth regarding his identity as I had no clue about the same. All I knew was that he is a pioneer of blogging in Nepal and one of the inspirations for me. But, his true identity is not going to change the respect I have for him. Does it really matter? No again.
Watch the video here:
As he narrates in the video, “The thing called ‘difference’ is just in our mentality; it doesn’t have an existence. We all are same and equal. We all are normal. I am actually no different to you. It’s time that we all celebrate the difference. We should celebrate our own unique ways and abilities; how we are and who we are.“
“The thing called difference is only in our mentality. We all are same and equal.”
A no-brainer thing; we should keep this in mind that we all are same. Specially, our Nepali society where people are categorized in different levels with respect to various aspects like cast, profession, gender, region and many more. We all are human beings; the difference comes only with our behaviors and abilities.
Here, I would say that the color of the skin doesn’t matter until and unless the things beneath it are all same. It doesn’t matter who are you and whom you like until and unless you have a loving heart. It doesn’t matter how you talk and how you walk until and unless your beloved ones are beside you.
“Your gender doesn’t matter until and unless you are the same human being as others.”
He further narrates, “I never felt that it was necessary to tell the world who I am and whom I like. It was all down to myself to make that decision. But, when I thought more about it, I felt that it’s not just my story but others as well. I found myself responsible here. Then, I decided to make this video as I thought that I could bring some positive changes to other people’s lives by telling my story.”
“Never run away from the responsibility that you have towards the society.”
It’s quite obvious that Lex had a platform, a personality, a secured future and people who could understand and support him. But, there might be hundreds and thousands of such people out there who are living just a normal life. They might just be there hiding their story within themselves. They might be suppressing their story just because of the embarrassment and the scary thoughts in front of this narrow-minded society. To reveal themselves would indeed be a hesitation just because of the doubt that they won’t be treated, loved and respected as they used to be. Imagine how hard and suffocating it would be for those people.
It’s not only about sexuality; bisexual and transgender matters, also, there are thousand reasons that a person undesirably has to push within himself/herself just because of the fear, uneasiness and discomfort. And that is where the depression born. Just a person there to be his/her listener and it can be an immense help. It can actually change the face of that person’s story and the lifestyle right from that moment.
“Be a kind listener/audience and support the ones who are in need of. You can have others as well but you might be the only one they have.”
Verdict
So, basically, I am inspired a lot by this video and Lex Limbu has won my heart one more time. The love and respect to him will be increased even more in coming days. I hope this video will reach out to everyone soon as it has got some very good lessons to learn as early as possible in our life.
“Never keep things within you; open up and share what you’ve got“
“Be a kind listener/audience and support the ones who are in need of. You can have others as well but you might be the only one they have.”

“The thing called difference is only in our mentality. We all are same and equal.“
“Never run away from the responsibility that you have towards the society.”
