Pahenlo Batti Muni
“During our college days, we used to compose music staying together till late at night. At that time, the problem of load-shedding was at the peak. So, we used to work by lighting a candle. Pitch-black room, the candle’s yellow light and we, composing the music under the same. And, that’s how the name for our band came in our mind ‘Pahenlo Batti Muni’ (underneath the yellow light).”
How the band was formed
Pahenlo Batti Muni was formed back in December 2015 after the school and college mates Rochak Dahal (vocalist), Pravesh Thapa Magar (Guitarist) and Bikram Bashyal (Guitarist), the music enthusiasts used to play together in their leisure times. They started writing lyrics and composing music on their own. When they were accompanied by Dipesh Kunwar (Bass Guitarist) and Kiroj Bajracharya (Percussion), then only they worked more like a complete band and also released the debut song called ‘Bari Lai’ in May 2016.
Things happened and the band members Dipesh and Kiroj had to leave. But, on the musical journey of Pahenlo Batti Muni, one fine day, the band was completed once again by the addition of Utsav KC (Luv) as a drummer and Umang KC (Kus) as a bass guitarist in June 2016.
Afterward, the band started to work with more dedication. They started to compose quite a different kind of music as well. They also focused on songs with more power and energy unlike the previous acoustic and soft one. Their second song ‘Bichitra’ is one fine example. And then, came the third song ‘Lori’, a song with mixed music patterns, which has also been appreciated a lot by the listeners as the previous one ‘Bari Lai’.
When asked about the song ‘Bari Lai’
When asked about the song, the band said that the song was written on behalf of a person who couldn’t love back to someone who has fallen for him/her despite the hard try. However, they added that it is all upon the listeners how they feel, judge and carve the meaning of the song. And the unique amazing video credit goes to ‘Kathaharu’.
You can listen to the song in below music video:
After the release of the songs ‘Bari Lai’ and ‘Lori’ with touchy lyrics, perfect rhythm and fingerpicking and soft well-composed music, the band, “Pahenlo Batti Muni” actually came into the limelight in the Nepali Music industry. The latest (4th track of the debut album) one they have released is ‘Kripaya’, which is all about eternal friendship/companionship. Also, the song has got a very beautiful music video. You’ve got to watch it.
“What we, as a band, think is that the music is a medium for the expression; expression of our feelings and our thought processes. While some people talk or write to convey their messages, we, a musical band use music to communicate, deliver our feelings or express ourselves.”
First Music Album
Just four songs and they are already in everyone’s playlist. As the band members addressed, they are now working in the studio to release the band’s first ever music album as soon as possible. Also, they are planning to go for a musical tour after the album release, which would be a good news to the fans should it happen.
“We are on the verge of releasing our first album. We are currently working hard for the same project. It will have eight songs in total, the four being the same which are already released. However, the release date is not fixed yet.”
I will surely update the blog once they announce and release the debut album.
What the band think about the status quo of Nepali music industry
The band members feel that the status of the music industry in Nepal currently is just fine. As per them, there are many great young/new artists who have got the good appreciation as well, but, when it comes to supporting the artists or musicians in a way to let them survive professionally in this field, the condition is way too piteous. Nowadays, people prefer to download and listen to the songs than to buy the album or go to concert/gigs that can help musicians financially.
So, there’s this appeal on behalf of ‘Pahenlo Batti Muni’ for all of the listeners like us for respecting and supporting Nepali music and musicians to help maintain and keep the music industry alive in Nepal.
