Whenever I talk with my friends living in abroad and ask them “How’s everything going?”, they all have a common answer, “It’s so hectic here. There’s a lot of things to take care about. College, classes, assignments, work, groceries, savings and all. Amidst all of these, it’s so hard to manage time for refreshment as well. The story of our struggle is real. I feel lucky even to have been barely breathing.“
Indeed, my friends, it’s kind of obvious out there. But, the condition is no less harder here as well. The only difference is that you are struggling with the sweet taste of modern development in abroad while we are only struggling here. No wonder, the condition is even worst here.
What story does a tenant have?
You are away from home and staying alone means there’s no one to keep an eye on you; no one to scold you for any wrongdoings. Due to the useless internet surfing till late night, you wake up late. You cannot get enough time even to take that last sip of the cup of tea you make with your half-conscious mind. ‘Tik-Tik’, the clock suggests that it’s almost 9 o’clock. You gotta be ready and run for your work. Your face is still wet because of that morning mandatory wash till you put the dresses on. Oh! The dress, they are wrinkled like your old Grandpa’s face, as you threw them at one corner of the room the other day. No wonder, they are howling to get ironed but you cannot manage even five minutes for that.
You somehow reach office at time, which doesn’t happen most of the times. The last night’s incomplete sleep and the inactive mind make the whole day at work very much troublesome. A bit of work you do and the day becomes hectic. You make it more painful thinking about the problems you have got in your personal life, family or in relationships. You just cannot stick yourself with office matters when you are at office.
With the restless mind, you return back to the same rented room. As you feel so tired and exhausted, you cannot even manage sometime to have a cup of tea and little chitchat with your friends in the evening’s fresh time. Your room barely seems like a place where a living person resides. It just feels a space with four dead walls surrounding. And you have no one other than those walls to listen and witness your unpleasant story. That’s how you start to believe the saying, “walls do have ears.” You have no clue what to do and where to go. You never make a routine nor you follow even if you make one.
So, you just lay down to drain out the stresses you gathered during work. Now, when you are at your room, you think about the problems from your office. You start doing deep analysis about your work, your profession, career growth and many more.
You can never leave your problems where they belong to. Here, you take your personal life problems from your room to your office and the work problems from your office to your room. That’s how you enervate yourself
You have nothing other than scrolling the news feed of your Facebook Profile. You feel so weary even to cook. Such is the condition when you would rather choose to sleep with your starving belly than to enter the kitchen and become a worst chef.
Then, what? There’s comes a call from your home. While you are still thinking what to cook, your Mom asks if you had your dinner or not. With no hesitation you lie immediately just to not make her worry about it. The conversation with her takes even a bit of your stress from your mind. Then, your Dad’s turn comes up. Damn it, now, you gotta make space in your mind for some more stress. The talk about your work, income and future plans with him becomes just too horrible at that time.
After few hours of handling your laziness with the internet being the companion, your stomach yells. You think to feed your hungry tummy even with a bowl of ‘wai wai‘ soup. Then, what annoys you the most is when you have to do the dishes from the last night before turning on the gas cylinder. You somehow do it. You somehow cook and push that chowchow soup below your throat. The food indeed becomes angry for being engulfed at around midnight.
Scrolling again the same Facebook/Instagram news feed, you don’t even realize when your sleepy eyes closed opening the door to a beautiful dreamland. You dream about a peaceful and happy life so innocently that you forget that you’ll have to repeat the same dull schedule the following day as well.
Even with all these struggles, hardships and restlessness; I don’t get worried neither I become hopeless. In the contrary, I see the challenge, the opportunity within the struggling story. The challenge to withstand the present horrible situations and the opportunity to make the better future with the stronger self. I actually enjoy confronting these struggles for I believe that no life is complete and meaningful without them.
